Owner: Employee at Cynthiana's Red State Barbecue tests positive for hepatitis A – WKYT

CYNTHIANA, Ky. (WKYT) – An employee at Cynthiana’s Kentucky’s Red State Barbeque has tested positive for hepatitis A, according to the restaurant’s owners.

The employee had only been working with the restaurant for 11 days before the diagnoses, according to the restaurant’s owners.

The owners of Red State Barbeque say they have already been making plans to have staff at both their Cynthiana and Lexington locations receive hepatitis A vaccinations following this incident.

There has been no official communication from local health officials about this reported case of hepatitis A.

The best practices to avoid getting hepatitis A are to get vaccinated and exercise proper handwashing practices.

Health experts say symptoms of hepatitis A are fatigue, decreased appetite, stomach pain, nausea, darkened urine, pale stools and jaundice. People can become ill 15-50 days after being exposed to the virus. Anyone experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention.
