Study says music can cure the cold, but these radio DJs aren't convinced – ABC15 Arizona

A new study out of Germany suggests music can cure the common cold.

Radio DJs JJ and Nina of Denver’s 95.7 had strong reactions to the study.

“Yah, so I'm hearing that music can help cure a cold, but I call slight BS on that, because I play music for a living and I’ve had this death cold that I got from my mom two weeks ago when I visited her," JJ says.

The study found when people with colds listen to music, it increases the level of antibodies in their bodies, which boosts the immune system and helps decrease the level of stress hormone cortisol.

"The pop music we play on 95.7 The Party makes you feel good; it's fun its bubbly," Nina says.

She might be on to something. The study found both dance music and jazz music to be the most effective at healing the body.

“I can imagine Enya ‘Sail Away with Me’ could be therapeutic," JJ says.

The study also mentions listening to your favorite genre of music might do the trick, too.

However, JJ is still not convinced.

"Lots of fluids, eat more vegetables, lot less junk food, sleep more when I can,” says JJ of better cures for the cold. “Just resting for your body is going to be the best thing. It won't be anything you listen to I'm sorry."
